VietNamNet Bridge – On April 7, the Hanoi People’s Committee issued the new poverty threshold for the capital in the 2009-2013 period.
Accordingly, households that earn less than VND 500,000 (US $28.00) per person per month in the urban area are considered as poor families. Families with income of less than VND 330,000 (US $18.00) per person per month in the rural areas are rated as needy households.

The city asked related agencies to make the list of needy households and sub-poverty households and urgently implement the policy to reduce poverty in the 2009-2013 period.
In the second quarter of 2009, Hanoi will work on the plan to alleviate poverty in a sustainable manner in the city. The city will also support workers who lose jobs because of economic slowdowns.
